CLAIRE FUDGE

BSc RD Pg.Cert Adv Dip

The ethos behind my work is equipping athletes with the skills and knowledge to confidently be able to implement the micro day to day changes to their nutrition around their changing training needs.

Science has always been an interest of mine so after graduating from Kings College London in 2003 with a BSc in Nutrition and Dietetics, I set out to advance my clinical dietetics practise by working in a range of medical specialities and disease states.

From there, my focus expanded into industry and education where I have been lucky enough to provide evidence-based support to industry, advising on the launch of new nutrition products, presenting to public healthcare professionals, GPs, athletes and businesses.

As a competitive Ironman triathlete sport has become a huge part of my life - and a passion I pursue in my professional work as a High-Performance Sports Nutritionist.

I work with athletes of all levels and of all ages to optimise their nutrition for performance. I specialise in endurance sports, and I have worked with dancers, triathletes, endurance triathletes, ultra-runners, cyclists, weight-related sports and athletes with eating disorders and REDs. I work as part of the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS), Youth Talent Programme (YTP) and Diploma in Sporting Excellence programme (DiSE) in conjunction with England Athletics, British Athletics, Hockey England, Netball England and the Motorsports Uk Academy(MSA).

Helping clients to optimise nutrition for performance, health and symptom management are embedded in my day to day practice.

MY GUIDING PRINCIPLES

1. EDUCATION IS AT THE HEART OF ALL I DO

My aim is to support the athletes I work with to gain the skills, knowledge and nutritional awareness to enable them to successfully optimise and manage their diet day to day. Together we can come up with a tailored nutrition plan that is specific to your unique needs, your goals and that you can stick to for the long term.

2. IT’S “THEORY VS PRACTICE”

Nutrition and weight maintenance is highly individual. I spend time getting to know my clients, their background, their training regimens and lifestyle demands. My advice will always be guided by the latest science and research as well as my 17 years of ‘real life’ experience working in dietetics too! Combining the two means I can find the sweet spot in nutrition for my clients (whether the text book agrees or not!)

3. EVIDENCE BASED SCIENCE

With so many mixed messages out there, it can be difficult for athletes to differentiate the fact from the fiction. As a registered dietitian and specialist sports nutritionist, I have many years of evidence-based practice in health and sport. I am passionate about my professional development, keeping updated with the latest nutrition science and incorporating new research in the field into the practical advice I give to my clients.

“As a competitive triathlete, I am passionate about how food and nutrition influences performance, metabolism, and body composition. I understand the needs of athletes and the realities of training too!”
